You should ask Jason about the one time asked me edit a story of his.....red ink everywhere. Needless to say he hasn't asked me again though I've offered.
Maybe I'll use green next time. I used black for a lot of it, and it wasn't so bad. I actually switched to red specifically so I could take a better blog photo :)
My high school English teacher was a ruthless paper-marker (and always very good, thoughtful comments, too, as I'm sure yours are) and he used green or purple pens because people had such psychological meltdowns when they see red ink on their papers. Of course, after a couple of years in his classes, I had that same reaction to green ink.... :)
I know that feeling, though. I felt that way a lot as a writing tutor. At some point people just need to know that as much as you want them to not feel bad, they really need to retake freshman writing. Maybe more than once. And/or turn off the TV and read a LOT of good writing so that their subconscious will understand what makes writing good without having to memorize all the "rules." It's almost impossible to be a good writer if you don't read a lot.

ReplyDeleteHaha, that's pretty funny and a little sad. Brings back some college memories. Can't they use green ink?

So I assume this was for work?
