Part of the issue is that few of us have cars, so what do you do when you move? You haul your old stuff to the curb and hope it doesn't rain before someone comes along to take it home. The trash pile is a community garage sale, and everything is free.
I'd wager that 90 percent of the furniture out here comes from Ikea or is second hand. Our living room, for example:

ReplyDeleteI, too have found a few goodies while "dumpster diving" and have donated items the same way. Sounds like its a lot more respected over there in NYC than it is here.....
