Suggestions for a family project?

I need some suggestions. My family wants to find a project we can do together while we eat junk food and gab on our one-week vacation.

Although we're all creative, none of us have a craft hobby. My mom sews well and has a lot of beading/jewelry-making supplies. We've already tied quilts for everyone.

It would be neat if we all left with some sort of keepsake, but we're all very practical, so it would have to be something that isn't just decorative.

Last year, our project was taking pictures for my brother who is serving a mission for our church so that he would know we missed him. All the pictures included a cutout of his head.

What have you done that has been fun?

  1. Shawna: I hope your head doesn't explode when you start to think of all the possibilities. :)

  3. The photos are fabulous! But do you really need to *create* something? Are you people too good for jigsaw puzzles these days? :)

  6. My family does a service project every year at Christmas, but one year we just did 72 hour kits. Each person was assigned to bring something different (water, jerky, band-aids, etc.) and someone made up some nice binders to store information (phone #'s, medical info, etc.). Everyone also brought a backpack (just a cheap one). Then we got together and assembled them. It was pretty fun, and super nice to have a good 72-hour kit.

  7. Is this the beach vacation? These ideas are for the beach:
    1-Make sandcandles
2-Create sandcastles, sculptures and sand mosaics. Photograph the art and make a set of greeting cards for each family
3-Collect sea glass, rocks & shells for Kathy (this is my favorite)

  8. Have Yancy tell you about the bracelets we made and the bead ceremony we did for Expedition Red Rock...that was pretty cool.
